My story begins about out in the great cornfields of Illinois in the year of nineteen hundred and eighty. Yep weren’t nothing to do in my early days out on the farm, ‘cept for the thrashing and milking. Then during the drought of ’88 my entire life was changed on a trip with Pa to the county grain elevator. We didn’t have much grain to deliver that year on accounts of the drought and all, so we spent some free time in town. As I moseyed about town I came up on an enterprise that had a great commotion inside. As I peered inside I could see laughing, carousing, men inside, and every so often what sounded like post hole digger handles clacking together could be heard. At the time I couldn’t figure what in tarnation these gents could be doing with post hole diggers inside a building, so I snuck on inside. I saw these men having a great time throwing shaped rocks at wood pins. Well I stood in a corner and watched a spell till’ the bartend told me to get on out.

When I got back to the homestead I began to imitate the action from the alley in my own fashion. I setup some old fence post that had been chopped off about the height as pins and set them into the ground out in a field that was fallow. I had to make due with stainless steel bowling ball cobbled together from an old milking can in those days. The lack of regulation equipment during my shaping years is likely what led to my unorthodox delivery method that took most of my high school years to refine. An old chevy pickup during those years was my link to the outside world and different team meets along the back stretches of highway in Il. Sometimes I dream back to those days… just me a dusty pair of Dexters, a 15 lbs urethane ball, and the road.
